| No need to change Bisphenol-A regulations, says FDA |
August 20: There is no need to change recommendations for exposure levels of Bisphenol-A in food contact packaging, and particularly its use in canmaking, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in a draft assessment.
The assessment, published in advance of a meeting in September that will review concerns about the use of Bisphenol-A (BPA) as a component of some drinks bottles for babies and epoxy-phenolic coatings used in cans, effectively clears the chemical but adds that there may be a need for further research.
The FDA assessment follows a similar recent report from the European Food Safety Authority saying that current recommended exposure levels were adequate. |
